New info about the Porsche Turn 10 EA Ferrari fiasco drama thing.

Slightly Mad Studios has left EA. So the head of SMS has posted in some forums about Forza 4 and Porsche.

To me it seems like that EA wanted the Ferrari license and Microsoft wouldn't lower the price so when Slightly Mad asked Microsoft said no and so EA did the same back.

Since TDU 2 has Ferrari and had to cut Lamborghini just to pay for it. It seems that the Ferrari license is pretty expensive and EA didn't want to pay for it. So I guess EA told Microsoft that they had to overpay for the Porsche license to get it. Since the contracts are NDA'd I guess we will never know.

Also The first Under the hood article says that Turn 10 has been negotiating the license for the past 18 months. So pretty much 5 months after Forza 3 was released. That seems to contradict what the SMS Lead said. So take what he says with a grain of salt.

Well That is most likely the steering assist that are on the controllers. In Forza 3 for the controller there was a assist for steering to help with oversteer. With the wheel this assist were almost non-existent. This steering assist helped regain control in case of a slide. In Forza 4 now for both wheel and controller in the chose assists menu there are 4 steering assist levels with the highest being simulation which obviously means none. People that have played on controller and played a Forza 4 demo have raved about how realistic is now, and wheel users hardly noticed a difference.

If these assists are labeled 1, 2, 3, 4: 2 would be Forza 3 controller, 3 would be the Forza 3 wheel, and 4 would be simulation.

EDIT: Also from the new under the hood from Wednesday they talked about the Steering in Forza 4.

For Forza 4, we changed the steering model in three major ways. First, we spent time watching how quickly real-world drivers (both pros and amateurs) tend to rotate the steering wheel as they turn-in, correct, and countersteer. This led to a change in the steering rate for Forza 4. We haven’t found that this change is really noticeable, but we know it’s more accurate—especially when coupled with our second change.

Second, we reevaluated our max steering angles and the system that creates them per car. We were able to use our researched curb-to-curb turning radius in combination with our new tire data (per compound peak slip angle) and other researched parameters, such as track width and wheelbase to reverse engineer each car’s max steering angle. We already had this data researched for some cars, but not for all of them. So we filled in the research gaps. In Forza 4, lock-to-lock steering is far more accurate for every car in the game.

Finally, we added the “simulation steering” option. This option removes all of the controller aides. There were very few of these aides on the wheel controller, but there were several on the console controller. With these aides removed, you will no longer get help finding the right counter-steering angle. If you over-countersteer (meaning you overcorrect by steering into the angle of the slide), the wheels do as commanded. This usually results in a wicked tank-slapper. Also, initial turn-in is direct and linear. This can feel very twitchy. When you command the game to go lock to lock-to-lock, it assumes you mean it and lets you live with the consequences.
Yay, it sounds like the controller won't have that slight disadvantage against the wheel users now then :) If they released a demo, that would be great.

Well last time I said anything about a wheel advantage BackONE and I spent a while putting our opinions to one another :P It seems he disagrees, and he did have a fair point, but he also agrees about the way with the controller you can't apply maximum grip lock fast enough.

I'm genuinely actually looking forward to this game, I know I complain about the loss of tracks and the laziness of Turn10 and their awful excuses, but I am fed up of FM3's physics!

Told you it was money. Although this is MS who are to blame rather than EA.

Yeah because the Porsche license is cheap to begin with right? It must be, which as why GT etc don't have it. Obviously EA weren't charging plenty for it to begin with eh?

That's not the point though, is it? You can't have a go at EA for asking for more money for Porsche when MS did the same thing for Ferrari. It works both ways, and people can continue just blaming EA, but this is as mush the fault of MS as it is EA.

I don't know where it says that the Porsche license is cheap, and I don't know why it would be, and if it was, they would be in Forza 4, and everyother racing game for that matter... Do you see what I am saying???

I think that from what the producers said in BBull's quote they basically admitted that the wheel users had an advantage but they have tried to fix this with the simulation mode on the controller. All of that talk about a car's slip angle has excited me quite a lot, replays that are on the leaderboards may actually be fun to watch now. On Forza 3 you rarely see any slides or the cars dancing around the track because it makes you slow. If they do the same as they did with Forza 3 then we could see a demo being released in the next week or two. This excitement has actually annoyed me for the fact that I will not be able to play the game when it comes out :(
