Hi guys. I'm sure it hasn't escaped everyone's attention that the numbers participating in FLMS events has been steadily declining over the past few months. I've been looking around, and other FM4 leagues appear to be suffering similarly, although perhaps not to the same extent as here. The FLMS has always been a niche series, not everyone's cup of tea, and therefore has never really attracted the colossal numbers of other FM leagues. However, I feel that we are now at a crossroads. With the arrival of Xbox One and FM5, the entire FM community was really split in two. After looking at FM5, we felt at the time that it wasn't a viable option for this series. So we stuck with FM4. But it seems that more and more are switching, or moving away from FM altogether. Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to gauge the community's thoughts on what we should do for the future of the series. I'll give you my thoughts... The way I see it, there are three options. 1. Move to FM5 - I know there are some who think this the best option. There definitely seems to be a lot more people playing it not compared to the start of the year. But, in my view, the game is still massively flawed and obviously unfinished. There's hardly any prototypes or GT cars, so we'd end up with a prototype class of R18s and 908s, and GT class of Ferrari, Viper and Corvette (unless we built them from road cars). There is a smaller selection of tracks. The penalty system is a joke, and totally open to abuse, with very little we can do to police it. And then there's the community platform, which is such a big step backwards over FM4, its ridiculous. I mean, no gifting? That's fundamental. 2. Move to Project CARS - I definitely think this game is worth having a serious look at. We won't know until we play it for ourselves whether its suitable for the series. But it definitely looks promising. 3. Stick with FM4 - I still think its the most suitable platform currently available to us. But I wouldn't be posting this if it wasn't without problems. And that problem is the numbers obviously. I'm trying to keep the current season going until the end. But I'm thinking that we should also look at setting up a mini series on FM5. Start it in about a months time and run maybe a six race series on the American tracks or something. I don't know exactly what format it would take yet, I'm open to ideas and suggestions. I would also need people to help me with it. I won't be able to run it on my own. So yeah, please post below with your own thoughts on what you think should be done, or anything else relevant. Thanks. |

It's easy for some not others. When you have nearly no money coming in it makes it difficult to afford xbox live let alone having to get a PC, wheel, Iracing subscription and cars and tracks. I know that personally it is not likely at all that I could do that any time in the near future |

I work for a specialist sports car company, And also have previous experience helping run a race winning car in a domestic UK championship. So yeah I've got a fairly good understanding of running costs on a basic track car. (Lotus Elise/Exige track cars are main source of income at the company). Having previously priced up an MX5 build, I reckon I could have one ready to hit the track for under £1200. As for running costs, Tyres are the things you'll get through quickest (If you don't bin it), And I've luckily got a steady supply of scrubbed in Yokohama's that the rich idiots like to take off their Lotus's after every track day. I'm good on the maintenance and repair side as It's what I do for a living anyway. So yeah, Money on a decent gaming PC (My current laptop is nearly 4 years old, And is about ready for the bin, So upgrading it isn't an option), Price of a decent steering wheel/pedal setup (Again I've looked into this, And the cheapest I can find is easily £200+ for a wheel I'd be happy buying), And finally iRacing costs on top. Then I've got to work out where I'm even going to set the thing up as I still live at home with my parents, And there's no way I could have a practical setup in my room (But hey who can afford to move out with house prices in the UK at the moment). So yeah, I'd still go down the track car route if I had to choose between that and iRacing. |

First off he said laptop which is much harder to upgrade. Secondly although from what I've seen I racing looks brilliant however the fact that this series uses console games makes it more accessible to people like me who are just starting to get into league racing. As much as I would love to play iracing it would make it much less accessible to people like me and then it would also mean that the majority of people that are here would not be able to race. I think before you start to make it seem like iracing is gods gift to gaming put this in perspective, you said for cars and tracks it would be around $200 which is around half the price of a next gen console add that to the $500 that you suggested it would take to upgrade a PC and then a wheel aswell it would come to a rough total somewhere between $750-1000 which you could alternatively use to buy a next gen console and an extra $250 of games at least which would then mean you could play a large range of games and have a series for a wider audience and have something that can play games for possibly 10 years or more rather than having to upgrade parts every 2-3 years. Now you can go bask in the glory of the fact that with consoles you are getting more for your money Edited by galeforce97, Oct 3 2014, 01:07:51 AM.

I'd say Project CARS is definitely the most likely candidate at this point, although we won't be able to fully decide on it until we've gotten the chance to try it out and make sure the series can work on it. |

Traveling expenses? I live 20 minutes from Brands Hatch (Which is where I'd do the majority of track days), 1 hour from Snetterton, around 2 hours from Silverstone, And could be at Spa or Zolder within 4 hours. Regular track days over here on MSVR circuits are around £150, Which I could earn on a Saturday afternoon doing private jobs. As for fuel, I've got it readily available at work. As for actually getting the car to the track, The S4 can tow, And we've got several work trailers that would easily fit an MX5, Plus spares. And MX5's are cheap as hell over here as they were mass produced for the UK market. You can actually pick up a fairly solid car for £1200. Less if you wanna do the work. I'd suggest looking at the UK versions of autotrader, Or eBay, Although you might be depressed about the price your son paid for his. edit - 1994 MX5 on ebay - Price is at £880 at the time of posting for a fairly solid looking, Limited edition 94 MX5. Valid MOT until July next year. Edited by Maynard S4, Oct 3 2014, 08:45:59 AM.

Sadly it's unlikely that I'll be on console anytime soon, however my dad has an Xbone and I did some hot laps in a foreign car and no feel for the brakes and was a second off of Takumi in P class for FM5, so I've got form there, if you guys or TORA do one off premier events or some shit

Ricky is right, for the next 2-4 years the FLMS will be on Xbox One. We still aren't 100% sure on the game, that will largely depend on how suitable Project Cars is. |

It's probably not immediately obvious, but racing on Forza, our forums, and most importantly the experiences and incredible memories I've enjoyed with you guys mean, have meant, and will undoubtedly continue to mean so very much to me. It might sound a bit odd - and I'm not sure whether it was the brilliant people I spent time racing with, my beautiful, effervescent, vivacious. Little red Ferrari, or quite simply the magic of Le Mans itself - but somewhere along the line I fell in love with it all. Properly in love with it all. It's no secret that I haven't been able to race as much as I'd like for quite a while now, and it really does frustrate me. There's nothing I want more in life than to race a Ferrari. Virtually or in the real world. To be really audacious. Tenacious. To extract every last ounce of lap time out of it. That's what thrills me. It makes you feel alive, challenged, like you're making a difference - achieving something wonderful. The feeling of being completely at one with a car, at that point where you're balanced on the edge of what's possible is simply unrivaled! The adulation of success after working so hard toward a goal - when you're uncontrollably bouncing around with the ecstasy of the moment. I just can't go too long without it all, so I will be back in some way, and I guess partly what I'm saying is that although it's going to be a difficult year or two for the FLMS, this will return in the future. We just have to dig our heels in and hold on for a little while. Hold on to what we've built together. I think really I'm writing to say more than that though. You guys know me, and I'm not one to shy away from my emotions. I just want to say that I'm around, I'm all there when you need me. If you need someone to speak to - someone with a bit of reasonable advice and a whole lot of lunacy - then I am around. You're all great, and hard times fall on us all. Unfortunately none of us are invulnerable. Whether you're hurting from an accident, heartbroken or have lost a loved one - it is going to cut deep and it will hurt. Your wounds will heal, and yes, they will leave scars. Painful scars. Scars that might never heal. But, those scars tell your story, and, put simply, they are what makes you, you. "I love the way she survived. Survival looked good on her. There were no dark marks under her eyes. Maybe on the inside, but I liked the way she looked through them and laughed at life. She did it gracefully. She'd walk over glass and through fire, but still smiled. And honestly, I'm not interested in people who haven't lived and died a few times. Who haven't yet had their heart ripped out, or know what it feels like to lose everything. I trust those people, because they stand for something. I know what she'd been through. I wanted to thank her for surviving. And I wanted her to know she now had someone willing to stand with her too." - J.Raymond |

Even though I have only spoken to you once I can tell how much you love this series and you car. Weather it is you passionate posts such as this one or the emotions I could here at the end of Le Mans. All of these thing have shown, in my opinion, that you truly care for this series which is something which is sadly lacked on other forums but it not just the series you care for the people in it and that makes me have a lot of respect for you. So if it takes 1 year or if it takes more as long as I can race I will be here and I will put every ounce into the races. I may have only been here1 year but I will stay here as long as his series is still running

Same goes for me! I'm here and to hear about that kind of passion in a leader, makes me want to stay here!!!! Racing or participating in multi-class racing events has been a dream and a passion for me as well, and although I've only been here a year like Gale, I am anticipating a revival of some sort for FLMS and I'm hoping throughout the years here In this league I will gain the knowledge and experience to make the car I drive even faster! To finally see a crowded track, filled with racers who are thirsty to get a win every two weeks is what I will be happy to see in the next year or two
